What I Wish I Knew About Manifesting in my 20s

What I Wish I Knew About Manifesting in my 20s

Have you ever felt like your past is holding you back from living your best life? You’re not alone. Tackling your past is a crucial step towards manifesting a life you’re proud of. Today, we’re diving into how your past might be sabotaging your manifestations and what you can do about it.

My Own Journey

My uncle killed himself in 2010. I remember the phone call from my cousin like it was yesterday. She was sobbing so uncontrollably she could barely string a sentence together. “I’m so sorry, Anthony,” were the first coherent words out of her mouth. Those words marked the beginning of the most difficult time in my life. He was a father figure to me and a major influence on the man I am today.

As cliché as it may sound, I truly believe if I knew then what I know now about the mind and manifesting, I would have been able to help save him.

Back in 2016, I hit the trifecta. I was fat, single, and broke. Every day I’d wake up, look in the mirror, and hate the person I saw looking back at me. Not because I was fat. Not because I didn’t have a girlfriend. Not because my bank account was in the negative. I hated myself because I KNEW what I had to do to be successful and manifest a life I was proud of, but I couldn’t even bring myself to do the simple s#!t I told myself to do.

“Stop eating so much.” “Just go to the gym.” “Wake up early and work on your business.”

These were all things I told myself to do constantly. Simple, right?! I thought so. So why the heck wasn’t I doing what I told myself to do?! Turns out it’s not enough to know what you have to do. It doesn’t even matter if you’re capable of doing it (you are, btw).

The Power of Identity

There’s something inside every single one of us that controls our entire life. It controls how you see yourself and the world around you. It controls how you behave. It controls what you do or don’t manifest. And that, my friend, is your IDENTITY. When I say “identity,” I’m really referring to your self-concept.

What are those beliefs you have about yourself? What are the negative thoughts you have about yourself? What is that inner voice constantly saying?

When I was over 330 pounds, I had beliefs like “I’m big boned,” and “My whole family is overweight, so I’m supposed to be overweight… It’s genetic.” I’d constantly tell myself and other people that I “always put weight on so easily.” This all culminated in an identity of being the BIG GUY. It’s who I was, and no matter how hard I tried to DO what I told myself to do, my identity always stopped me.

Changing Your Identity

It’s easy to do who you are—it’s difficult to do who you are not. It’s easy for the smoker to smoke. It’s easy for the gym rat to work out and be healthy. It was easy for me, “the big guy,” to be fat and lazy. Far too often we are taught to simply change our behaviors. But that clearly doesn’t work. Remember your last New Year’s resolution?

The key is changing your identity. By changing who you are, you will naturally and effortlessly change how you interact with the people and world around you. Then your outcomes in life automatically map to your new identity. The key to manifesting (and really the only “method” that works) is becoming the type of person who would already have what you’re trying to manifest.

How to Change Who You Are

By changing your subconscious programs, of course. At a neurological level, your “identity” is simply the byproduct of all those beliefs and fears you have running subconsciously. So when you update those programs, you will automatically update your identity. And like I said, you’ll then automatically start manifesting everything that aligns with your new identity.

Saving My Uncle

You might be wondering how this could have saved my uncle’s life. If I could have taught him how to eliminate his fear, anxiety, and limiting beliefs about himself, he would have very literally become a whole new person. He would have become someone who would NEVER take their own life because his beliefs about himself and the world around him wouldn’t allow that to happen. I would have shown him that it’s really quite easy to change his subconscious programs. I would have taught him how to change FAST and without willpower. I would have helped him reinvent himself.

Unfortunately, I can’t go back in time. But everything I would have done to help save him, I’ve been blessed to learn in time to save myself. My darkest days are behind me.
